Dear Members and Designers,

The SDC global design competition is in full swing around the world. This year, the grand final will coincide with the SDC international conference on 25–26 June in Goa, India and, to tie with the theme of the conference, the brief at http://www.sdc.org.uk/pdf/designcomp09_brief.pdf also incorporates an aspect of sustainable thinking ( http://www.sdc.org.uk/pdf/designcomp09_sustain-brief.pdf ) within the original design and/or final design application. The main criteria for entries, as previously, will be to demonstrate the creative, imaginative and original use of colour in either fashion or textiles; a full set of rules are available at http://www.sdc.org.uk/pdf/designcomp09_rules.pdf.

The South African judging will take place in Durban on Friday the 20th of March 2009,

Criteria

1. ‘To demonstrate the creative, imaginative and original use of colour in fashion or textiles.’

All entries should show evidence of the following:

1. colour as an integral component of the design process
2. development of the designs, from concept to final design product or application
3. excellent presentation and clarity of ideas
4. innovative or creative approach to incorporating an aspect of sustainable thinking within the original design and/or final design application.

The judges will assign marks for each of these four categories.

Regional judging and heats will be held around the globe in the following countries:
Australia : : Bangladesh : : China : : India : : Hong Kong : : Pakistan : : South Africa : : Sri Lanka : : UK : : USA
