SDC Global Student Design Competition
SA Leg Results

Dear Members

I'm thrilled to announce the winner and runner up in the local leg of the SDC Global Student Design Competition.

Judging took place Monday 23.03.2009 at the Westville Country Club. Unfortunately, only 3 entries were received, one from Tshwane Technikon (Pretoria), and two from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Technikon (Port Elizabeth).

The work was assessed and marked according to the prescribed SDC format by 4 judges, namely:

Heidi Alcock (on behalf of SADFA);
Carina Weineck (a textile designer with +-20 years commercial experience);
Mark Pywel and George Vorster, both highly experienced lecturers in the Department of Textile Design and Technology, Durban University of Technology.

Results as follows:
1st: Moipone Qekisi, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Technikon (Port Elizabeth) with “My Perfect World”
2nd: Ilse-Mari Botha Tshwane Technikon (Pretoria) with "Earth Skin"

We at SADFA would like to congratulate Moipone and Ilse-Mari on their achievements, and wish Moipone a safe and fruitful journey as she travels to Goa, India, courtesy of the SDC, to attend the judging of the Global competition to be held along with the SDC International Conference at the end of June.

Kind regards,
Heidi Alcock
