Dear Members,

It has been decided that a Textile conference will go ahead this year.

As, over the years, Sympotex and NATCON have been growing closer and closer in format, we also decided it was time to rename the event so I’m thrilled to announce the advent of TexCon TwentyTen.

The conference will take place on Thursday and Friday the 16th and 17th of September 2010 at the Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel, Snell Parade, Durban.

Your committee comprises John Baker (Chairman); Heidi Alcock (Secretary); Nigel Ratcliffe (Treasurer) and Charles Peake (our all-important Programme Coordinator!).

The current programme proposal is 16 lectures over the two days, single venue (no parallel sessions), with an evening function on the Thursday night.

Please let us know if you would be keen to provide a lecture for the event, we are keen to cover all areas relevant to textile and clothing manufacturing, as well as retail and related topics. The format is, once again, 5 minutes set-up, 30 minutes to speak, 5 minutes question time, a total of 40 minutes.

We have kept frills to a minimum at this stage, as we cannot expect companies to spend large amounts of money on sponsorship, and we want to keep the delegate fees affordable.

To all of you in Manufacturing, I have to state that it is essential for this event and for any future events that we have the support and attendance of key players in industry. If we do not, the speakers are not giving their expertise to those who can put it to best use, but rather to their competition. Understandably, they are reluctant to do this. We are encouraging attendees from all areas of the industry related to the manufacture and use of textiles, from fibres and spinning through to retail, and SADFA has committed to sponsor the attendance of a limited number of textile students, please check with the TexCon TwentyTen committee or Education committee for further details on this.
